PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY FOR PROFESSORS

 

1)  Learning Theories

2) Content Development:

  1. Contents should not be too basic or too specific.
  2. Contents must not be too specific or too general.
  3. Slides must be readable; not include too many contents in one slide, charts, pictures, tables, and diagrammatic illustrations must be clear and easy to comprehend; Slides should be inappropriate color and font size; slide design must be appealing and students must perceive the slides as well organized.
  4. Students must find it easy to comprehend what is demonstrated in the lecture slides.
  5. Students must not perceive the content as too much or too little.

3) Build Interpersonal Skills:

  1. Building rapport; trust; respect among students
  2. Communicating Informatively and Supportively.
  3. Communicating clearly.
  4. Verbal communication must match non-verbal communication.
  5. Build Listening skills.

4). Enhancing Professors delivery

  1. Professors must be able to maintain the speed of delivery by not being too slow or fast.
  2. Students must feel comfortable listening to lectures that are neither too quiet nor loud.
  3. Professors must be cautious not to halt noticeably but deliver it smoothly.
  4. Professors must sound lively and must not lecture monotonously which would otherwise lead to boredom.

5) Faculty attitude

a) Professors must maintain good etiquette while delivering, inside and outside school premises.

b) It is essential to build and maintain the attitudes listed so forth:

  1. Caring
  2. Supportive
  3. Motivating
  4. Inspiring

c) However, professors must avoid the following negative attitudes:

  1. Rude
  2. Mean
  3.  Belittling
  4. Sarcastic

6) Self-learning and continuous learning

  • Strengthening teachers’ knowledge of specific subject-matter content.
  • Engage in self-learning and continuous development.
  • Learning through research and writing articles and journals.
